MSSQL Server 2008 Workgroup Edition is shipping with GoldMine 8.5 purchases (including upgrades!) now. With it, one would expect to be able to run the typical database maintenance and backup routines on their SQL server. Unfortunately, there was a bit of a problem with that and some users were caught unaware. Fortunately, the programmers at Microsoft have corrected the problem with service pack 1. If you run SQL 2008 Workgroup Edition, it’s not an option — get it!

From Microsoft Knowledgebase article 968382:

PROBLEM
Consider the following scenario. You install the release version of one of the following editions:

* Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard x86 or x64 edition
* Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Developer x86, x64, or IA-64 edition
* Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise x86, x64, or IA-64 edition
* Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Workgroup x86 or x64 edition
* Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Web x86 or x64 edition

You install the SQL Server 2008 Client Tools. However, you do not have SQL Server 2008 Integration Services installed. When you create and then execute a maintenance plan, you receive the following error message in the job history:
The SQL Server Execute Package Utility requires Integration Services to be installed by one of these editions of SQL Server 2008: Standard, Enterprise, Developer, or Evaluation. To install Integration Services, run SQL Server Setup and select Integration Services. The package execution failed. The step failed.
